The New Sea Pines Beach Club Parking

One of two new walkways at the Sea Pines Beach Club

Sea Pines Has Improved Beach Access

When you come to beach at the Sea Pines Resort this year, you’ll find that the parking area at the Sea Pines Beach Club is newly renovated and better than ever.  Renovations that took almost five months were completed in February, 2008.  The new parking area has 177 clearly defined, wide parking spaces on white coral rock.  New wooden walkways between rows of parked cars provide visitors an easy and safe walk to the beach.  The dirt parking areas among the trees is gone,

The asphalt drive with imbedded oyster shells and parking places of white coral rock

replaced by an organized asphalt drive embedded with oyster shells.  A new traffic circle at the parking entrance circulates traffic in and  out under the watchful eyes of attendants.  One thing that has not changed is that parking at the Sea Pines Beach Club is restricted to use by the residents, guests and vacationers of the Sea Pines Resort.

Safer and Better Beach Parking

Until this year, parking at the Sea Pines Beach Club was always on the pinestraw between and among the trees.  This brought out the parking creativity in many beachgoers but the Resort decided that it was time for a change.  Cary Corbitt , the Sports and Operations Manager for the Sea Pines Resort told the Go Gated Blog, "The new parking area is safer, better organized and has better drainage than the old area.  The coral rock and pavers are all pervious surfaces.  There are fewer spaces than the old area had but employees at the Beach Club are now required to park in remote areas so the capacity is about the same as before.  the Beach Club and Beach Club Restaurant will be improved in the near future.  The Sea Pines Resort is always making improvements."

The Beach Parking Attendants

Michael Kerwin and Conner Ferguson are the Beach parking attendants who watch over cars at the Beach Club from 8-4 all summer.  They say that the new parking area is better than it used to be and has a perfect safety record.  "Now people don’t double park and block cars from getting out.  They used to do that occasionally and we would go out on the beach and find people to move their cars,"  Conner said.  Conner is an 18-year old graduate of the American College in Cairo, Egypt who will  attend Elon College in North Carolina this fall.  Conner’s

parents have owned a house in Sea Pines for ten years and spend their summers here.  His dad works for Coca Cola in Cairo, Egypt and his family lives there the rest of the year.  About Egypt, Conner says, "I loved living there.  Cairo is safe, really cheap and gas prices are low."    Michael  is a 20-year old student at the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina who is also doing some work for his church this summer.
